5 Simple Hygge Christmas Ideas
Getting a little out of breath preparing for Christmas this year? Cards, decor, parties, lights, cookies, presents, food…
I completely get it.
All of these things are good but they are not the point, and they can contribute to our stress. BIG TIME. If you are not sensing peace and calm right now, something is not right.
In our culture, we are wired for action. Even when we can and should sit still, we put more on our plates just to stay busy. Ever do this... Write something on your list just to scratch it off? We are obsessed with productivity. And it’s literally killing us and sucking the joy out of life.
Remember why you are racing. It’s because you love your family and want to create memories and enjoy time together. It’s already the 22nd so….
(IN MY OPINION) YOU HAVE TWO CHOICES:
If you don’t have much else to do, just finish it up today and stop dragging it out.
Yes, you heard me. Finalize the presents, plan the meals, get the groceries, and cross it all off your list. Race to relax and then let it be.
If your list is far too overwhelming, you need to cross as many things off the list as you can.
Perhaps you put too much on that list to begin with and set yourself up for failure before you even started. You must identify what’s most important and what you can let go of. I promise you will find so much freedom if you can slow down and prioritize.
ALTHOUGH THIS TIME OF YEAR CAN BE CRAZY, YOU DON’T HAVE TO LET IT TAKE OVER. YOU HAVE THE POWER TO SIMPLIFY AND LIVE ON PURPOSE FOR YOUR CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY AND EVERYDAY!
Here are some fun hygge tips (pronounced hue-gah) to keep you cozy and joyful this Christmas.
1. Swap party clothes for comfies!
It’s a day to snuggle up and enjoy being with your loved ones. If you are hosting, invite everyone to wear comfy clothes instead of stuffy party attire. And if you are going somewhere, a big sweater and leggings work perfectly!
2. Forage for your decor
Peace out Target! Get outside and find some branches, pinecones, and sprigs of greenery. Place them in your favorite vase and voila! A super trendy (and free) decor item!
3. Scale back on your wrapping paper
Just pick one roll you love (I love plain brown butcher paper) and one color ribbon, then skip the gift tags by writing a love note right on the paper.
4. Make some mulled wine
Making and drinking this just screams Christmas! The smell, the warmth, the flavor - pure yum!! And it’s easy to make.
5. Chill out already
Gather your nearest and dearest to read holiday stories, play board games, make crafts, and cuddle up together around the fire. Heck! You can even hold hands, sing, and dance. Another thing: Put down your phone - 24/7 Instagramming isn’t very hygge, now is it?
6. Go on walks
Not only is walking great for your digestion after big holiday meals, it’s also a time to connect, chat with your loved ones, and get some fresh air!
Now over to you! What things make your Christmas “Hygge?”
