Clutter is a modern day lifestyle. Although our ancient ancestors didn’t have many of our state of the art conveniences we have, they did live a much simpler and more calm life. I think they were on to something.

Yup, you heard that right. The physical clutter in our homes is taking up precious space in our brains and keeping us from thinking straight, let alone thriving.

There are hundreds of blog posts, Pinterest articles, and classes you can take on the “how” of decluttering.  But today, instead of telling you WHAT to do, I want to dive deep into the WHY of decluttering, and show you what it can do for you internally and externally.

We need to root our urge to declutter into something that will be meaningful and powerful for our lives. For most moms, it’s not enough to just be motivated by a clean home. We need to go deeper and understand the big payoff and how it might just change EVERYTHING.

You don’t need to be a hoarder to seek decluttering advice. Everyone can benefit.

The more simplified you make your home, the more present, intentional, and fun your life becomes.

So here are just a few benefits that might be the motivation you need to actually get you going!

  1. You will feel less anxious. Those piles of paper, clutter in your fridge, excess clothes, toys laying around, they all feel like unfinished projects. Whether you are aware of it or not, those tasks loom over you until they are dealt with. They take up precious space in your brain that could be used in so many other fun and productive ways!

  2. You will be more productive. When you don’t have physical obstructions like paperwork and messes at your feet, you can move throughout your home and life with ease.

  3. You might lose some weight. When you have a tidy pantry and fridge, you tend to stock it with healthier items and want to make nourishing choices. Plus, our environments are a mirror to our inside life. When you free yourself of any kind of clutter, your body will naturally want to follow suit.

  4. Your mental focus will sharpen. Clear countertops and open space create space to make better decisions, identify what’s most important, and follow through on important tasks.

  5. Your creativity flourishes. When you free yourself of mental and physical clutter, you have room to breathe and think. Clutter clearing is a tool to get “unblocked” and when you do, you welcome in new ideas to create!

  6. Your self esteem will improve. When you know you are taking action and decluttering, you build confidence and feel empowered. Old, broken, and worn out items can drag your energy down and make you feel bad about yourself and your home.

  7. You will spend more time with your family. When you stop having to tidy up all day long, it leaves space to breath, relax, and be spontaneous.  You will have the time to just sit and ENJOY your life instead of cleaning up after it all the time.

If you're overdue for a clutter clearing, give it a go! Start small and know that slow and steady progress does add up!
