A Five Minute Face for Moms
Good morning! Let’s talk about the five minute face for moms - but before we do, I want to be perfectly clear on exactly two things:
If you are a mom who gets up in the morning, has a shower, and gets fully ready for the day, get it, girl!
If you are a mom who drags her butt out of bed and uses dry shampoo when she remembers, get it girl!
This is NOT a post about how getting yourself made up in the morning is essential to feeling good. But hey, if it does make you feel better to do your makeup when it strikes you, then do it. And, if you are still reading, then I bet you are curious how I get my face done in five minutes flat.
My Five Minute Face
Since I am in theatre, I have tried a ton of makeup products, and I’m going to share my daily favorites with you. I use a combination of drugstore and higher quality items, but nothing to break the bank by any means. Plus, it’s easy. Minimal products, because that’s the way I roll.
First Up: Create Your Canvas
1. I use this Tarte foundation. It is pretty full coverage, because if I’m going to bother using foundation, I want it to do something! I use my very fancy brush from Target, and I just swoosh it all over my face. I imagine there is a technical term for this, but I just get it on there nice and even.
2. Next up is a concealer called Shape Tape, again from Tarte. When I’m shopping for gifts for a new mom, I always grab them one of these. Hello - they are going to be exhausted, and this product I swear will make you look alive, even when you have been up allll freaking night. Again, I use a makeup sponge from Target, and blend it under my eyes, along my nose, and just shmear it around. My makeup-y friends are probably dying with this terminology, but it is what it is.
3. My favorite blush is a hot pink called Passionfruit from Beauty Counter, and I just grab my brush and go for it. Sometimes I might use bronzer as well, but heck - this is a five minute face, mommas!
4. Now eyebrows. One day when I am not breastfeeding, I’d love to get my brows microbladed. But until then, it is this sweet $10 eyebrow pencil & brush combo I got from Ulta. Just fill in those thin spots, swish the brush through to tame the crazy morning eyebrow hairs, and boom!

5. For my eyeshadow, I only use one product. No layers, or creases, or any blending to deal with. I use Glossier Lidstar in Moon, a shimmery eyeshadow that I simply apply with my fingertips to just my lids. I love this product because it is super subtle, but brightens my eyes up, which I desperately need some mornings.
6. Time to curl those pretty lashes of yours! I think it may be time to upgrade my eyelash curler, since it may be the same one I had in middle school. But hey, it works.
7. Mascara is one place I will splurge on to avoid clumpy, sticky lashes. My absolute favorite is Better Than Sex mascara from Too Faced. In a pinch, I do like Cover Girl Lash Blast mascara - the one in the orange tube. And ladies, I stack mascara on, because it is such a huge, eye-opening bang for your buck.
8. And if you want to hit up shimmer town, which I am, because I’m not afraid of it. I use Glossier’s Niteshine highlighter, and kind of use my fingers to put it up around the outside of my eye and top of cheekbones. Glowing goodness!
What About Lips?
Here is a tip that I learned from “the pros”. If you have a more neutral eye, do a bigger, bolder lip. If you have big bold makeup, go for a more neutral lip.
Today, I’m doing neutral for both today, because it’s Monday and the baby literally just woke up. I like Buxom, a plumping colored gloss called Dolly.
Phew! That’s it! My five minute face for moms - which actually took me LESS than five minutes - because, yes, I timed it. Toss a little dry shampoo in there, and that’s my day, folks!
